I had the remarkable experience of studying the elk at an elk farm near Three Hills, Alberta. In my 1/2 ton pickup truck, I was surrounded by the herd of male animals. It was a great chance to study the movement, structure and behaviour of these impressive animals. The "Bugle in B" refers to their calls and vocalizations. The asymmetrical rack of antlers is based on an actual pair that were as tall as I am.
