  • These heirloom bottle stoppers fit wine (cork and screw top), balsamic vinegar, olive oil, vegetable oil and most screw top liquor bottles, amongst others. The unique design of the stopper allows it to stand up for display when it is not in the bottle.

These beautiful hardwood stopper handles are handmade from spalted maple from our property in Quebec that is carefully turned on our vintage wood lathe in forms inspired by the grain and unique coloration patterns of the wood.

Spalted wood is beautiful and eye-catching and it comes in many forms with unique lines, patterns, colors and textures that is caused by decay of certain species of aged wood. While somewhat rare and sought after by woodworkers and others for its beauty, spalt is one of the longest-lasting colorations found in wood.

Each is then spray-finished with at least five coats of ultra-clear, environmentally friendly, water-based acrylic lacquer that both highlights the character of the wood and provides a durable, shiny finish.

The handle is then threaded onto a solid, US-made, FDA food compliant grade 304 18-8 stainless steel stopper base with FDA-Approved food grade nitrile O-rings to provide a solid seal when seated in the neck of most bottles.

    • The height of the wood handle for each item is listed next to the selection in the drop-down menu under “Wood Type (Type de bois)”. The stainless-steel base, most/all of which is mostly in the bottle during use, is 32 mm in height.

In use, with a slight clockwise twist when putting it in the bottle, a beautiful friction fit is created. Similarly, a slight clockwise twist while gently pulling allows for easy removal from a bottle. While this stopper creates a good seal for a bottle and its contents, it is not recommended to store a stoppered bottle on its side.

To care for the handle, simply wipe with a damp, non-abrasive cloth when needed, however, the wood should never be allowed to soak in water or be washed in the dishwasher or it will become damaged. The stainless-steel stopper base can be unthreaded and removed for easier washing when required and, unlike the handle, this part can be immersed in water or washed in the dishwasher if desired.

Happy bottle-stopping and all activities related to it!
